German wheat and rapeseed crops in 2021 favored by good weather

HAMBURG, Jun 15 (Reuters) – Germany’s 2021 wheat harvest of all types is expected to rise 3.8% on the year to 22.98 million tonnes, thanks to good weather, the association of agricultural cooperatives said on Tuesday. from the country.

The association in its latest grain production forecast said the 2021 winter rapeseed crop in Germany will rise 4.6% from last summer’s volume to 3.67 million tonnes.

The figure is higher than its previous harvest forecast in May, when the association had forecast a wheat output of 22.66 million tonnes and a winter rapeseed harvest of 3.62 million tonnes.

Germany’s wheat, cereals and rapeseed grew slower in cool spring weather, but warmer June has allowed crops to recover, the association said.

In May, crops were about two to three weeks behind normal development, but are now only one week to 10 days behind normal growth, he said.

Germany is the second largest wheat producer in the European Union after France and for many years the largest producer of rapeseed in the EU, Europe’s main oilseed for the production of edible oil and biodiesel.

The outcome of the harvest will continue to depend on the weather in the coming weeks, the association said.
