BITS Pilani Alumni Association BITSAA Jaipur Gifts Oxygen Concentrators to Birla Sarvajanik Hospital

The aim of the Institution of Excellence in India today Birla Institute of Technology and Science BITS Pilani Alumni Association, BITSAA Jaipur Chapter is to stay connected with all the Proud to be BITSian Alumni from Jaipur as well as nearby cities which include Ajmer, Kota, Bhilwara Udaipur, Jodhpur Bikaner etc and contribute to the larger task of nation building not only at.normal but also pandemic times.

The idea of establishing BITSAA Jaipur Chapter was conceived in 1995 and was constituted on 04 May 1996. Currently the chapter has more than 200 registered members. With the likely challenge of hosting BITSAA Global Meet BGM in 2023, Jaipur chapter is gearing on all fronts to take up the same. Regular gathering of BITS alumni at Jaipur takes place every year several times which include BITSian Day, Diwali Milan and Holi Milan.

Second wave of Corona has hit everyone hard across India and Covid help requests from all corners across India has been pouring in for oxygen, oxygen beds, ICU beds, Plasma or injections and medicines for near and dear ones of BITSians , their family members and relatives. In this context, BITSAA Jaipur to fight with these unforeseen circumstances took lot of initiatives.

BITSAA Jaipur formed a Covid Help group headed by Kailash Gupta , Ex president , BITSAA Jaipur with nearly 30 volunteers who were working closely with centralized help group created by BITSAA International . Quick direct help was also provided by this group in form of verified information to fulfill requirements. BITSAA Jaipur had also sensed the need of Oxygen Concentrators in mid of April itself due to deteriorating situation of oxygen supplies.

BITSAA Jaipur launched “Oxygen @ Home” under the dynamic leadership of Mr Alok Jain , president BITSAA Jaipur , Secretary Dr Rakesh Gupta and Treasurer Rajesh Luhadia and had collected nearly INR 7 lacs for COVID help cause.. BITSAA Jaipur arranged 10 concentrators which helped many BITSAA members, their families and relatives. In addition, BITSAA Jaipur also donated oxygen concentrators to Hospitals in rural areas of Rajasthan such as M. S Hospital Sri Madhopur, Reengus and Kuchaman city.

At Pilani which happens to be the hometown of the Birlas, Birla Sarvajanik Hospital and the Birla College of Nursing is run by the Matri Seva Sadan Charity Trust established in 1942 presently spearheaded as a Mission with Passion by the indomitable fighter Yash Birla who heads the Yash Birla Group. The hospital has been rendering yeomen service by providing high quality healthcare at affordable costs at Pilani not only to the thousands of students enrolled in various Pilani schools and BITS but also to whole lot of villages in Jhunjhunu District.

Well known alumnus of BITS Pilani Prof BR Natarajan (aka Dean Nattu) acknowledged to be well connected with all batches of Proud to be BITSians is presently teaching at globally accredited Banasthali Vidyapit. Few days back for his vacation he came to Pilani and had visited the Birla Sarvajanik Hospital regarding progress monitoring of the state of the art Oxygen Plant with plant capacity equivalent to 25 cylinder consumption per day being put up by the alumni of 70-75 batch of Gurudakshina Project fame.

The CMO Dr RK Jain who has spent his lifetime at the hospital mentioned to him that hospital urgently needed few more oxygen concentrators for treating COVID patients. Prof Natarajan immediately contacted the movers and shakers of BITSAA Jaipur who readily came forward to gift two five litre oxygen concentrators. Sri Govind Ram Saini the office incharge of the hospital coordinated with BITSAA Jaipur and in record time brought the oxygen concentrators to Pilani.

Sri Govind Ram Sainiji organized a brief function on 19 June 2021 at the Birla Savajanik Hospital which was graced by Dr RK Jain CMO, Dr (Honoris Causa) Madhusudan Malani Director of Health & Community Welfare cheered by hospital staff and several citizens of Pilani. Prof Natarajan gave an emotional speech explaining the strong between BITSians and Pilani and naming the office bearers of BITSAA Jaipur on their behalf handed over the oxygen concentrators to the hospital. CMO and the Director profusely thanked BITSAA for the wholehearted contribution and participation in the hospital activities.
