Dyson Limited announced dyson Zone, the company’s first wearable device, with noise canceling. It is scheduled to be sold in some regions from the fall of 2022, and the current expansion in Japan is yet to be determined.
in addition to the ability to remove airborne contaminants such as house dust, particulate matter and harmful gases, wearable devices that also block noise with advanced noise canceling capabilities and high-quality sound systems. it is designed based on the company’s expertise in air flow control, air purification and motor technology cultivated over nearly 30 years, as well as a deep understanding of indoor but also outdoor air quality.
as dyson’s first effort to develop audio technology, the company’s team of audio engineers and acousticians designed superior audio based on metrics backed by extensive listening trials. the result is pure, rich audio and advanced noise cancellation.
each earcup is equipped with a high-performance neodymium electroacoustic system. the wide playback frequency band is optimized to accurately reproduce the collected sound, allowing musicians and creators to enjoy the sound they intended.
THE HEADPHONES ALSO FEATURE ADVANCED ANC (ACTIVE NOISE CANCELING) TECHNOLOGY. THE UNIQUE MICROPHONE ARRAY TECHNOLOGY REDUCES EXTERNAL NOISE AND MOTOR DRIVE NOISE, AND PROVIDES ADVANCED ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION AT HOME, AT WORK, AND ON THE GO. IN ADDITION, BY FIRMLY STICKING THE EAR CUSHION WITH AN ANGLE ALONG THE SHAPE OF THE EAR, HIGH FREQUENCY NOISE IS ALSO CUT OFF.
ANC MODE IS AVAILABLE IN THREE TYPES: ISOLATION MODE, WHICH PROVIDES A RICH AND IMMERSIVE AUDIO EXPERIENCE, CONVERSATION MODE, WHICH MAKES CONVERSATION SOUNDS CLEARER, AND TRANSPARENCY MODE, WHICH CAN RECOGNIZE THE SURROUNDING SITUATION.
in terms of design, it also takes inspiration from the shape and design of the riding saddle. the riding saddle bends along the horse’s spine and balances the load by sticking to the left and right areas of the spine. this idea is applied to the cushion part in the center of the headband and is designed so that the weight is distributed on the sides rather than the top of the head.
for ear cushion materials, dyson engineers delve deeper into the various foam structures and choose the best material based on density, compression and springback rates. the cushions are deliberately flatter than traditional ear cushions for optimal fit and are angled from the head to the shape of the ears.
each earcup is equipped with a compressor that takes in air through a two-layer filter and delivers purified air from the left and right through a non-contact shield to the wearer’s nose and mouth. the contactless shield is designed to keep purified airflow close to the nose and mouth, and as much as possible, it is said to be unaffected by the wind blowing from the side of the face.
initially, it was equipped with a mousepiece and backpack that purifies the air like a snorkel, and a motor was mounted inside, but it has evolved dramatically after six years of development. in the early stages of the prototype, one motor placed behind the neck was changed to two compressors and placed in an earcup. as a result, the mouthpiece like a snorkel has evolved into a contactless shield, a new mechanism that efficiently delivers clean air without touching the entire face.
the shape of the shield is designed so that the flow of purified air from the left and right filters overlaps the central mesh along the shape of the wearer’s face and is effectively delivered to the nose and mouth.
THERE ARE FOUR TYPES OF AIR PURIFICATION MODES: LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH, AND AUTOMATIC. THE AUTOMATIC MODE SWITCHES THE PURIFICATION SPEED AUTOMATICALLY IF NECESSARY BY AN ON-BOARD ACCELERATOR. IN ADDITION, WHEN AIR CLEANING, AUDIO PLAYBACK, AND ANC ARE USED AT THE SAME TIME, IT IS NECESSARY TO INSTALL A NON-CONTACT SHIELD. FOR AUDIO PLAYBACK ONLY, THE NON-CONTACT SHIELD CAN BE ATTACHED AND DETACHED.
